A Visit To Tokyo Designers Week 2011

Despite the name, it’s more of a single location event – all the other design events on at this time of year are not actually under the TDW umbrella. My expectations on arrival were not that high. On my last visit to the event a few years ago there was a lot of interesting furniture but nothing that really left an impression. »

A Flood of Art, Design and Media events in Tokyo

In mid to late autumn of each year there is a flurry of interesting art, design and media related events in Tokyo.  Here are a few that we’ll be either attending or keeping an eye on. Japanese architects Sejima and Nishizawa win the Pritzker Prize

Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa have won the Pritzker Architecture Prize. The award is sometimes called the ‘Nobel Prize’ for architecture. The stature of the award can be seen from past winners who include Rem Koolhas, Norman Foster, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Renzo Piano and Herzog & de Meuron as well as fellow Japanese architects Tadao Ando and Kenzo Tange.
